Education

Educated St. Joseph’s Seminary (Gessen, Louisiana), Holy Cross College (New Orleans), Kenrick Seminary (St. Louis), St. Louis Seminary (New Orleans).

Career

Ordained priest R.C. Church, June 11, 1903. Assistant at St. Louis Cathedral, New Orleans, 1903-1906. Secretary to archbishop of New Orleans, 1906-1914.

Vicar general and chancellor Archdiocese of New Orleans, 1914-1917. Administrator Archdiocese of New Orleans, 1917-1918. Administrator newly erected diocese of Lafayette, Louisiana, January-June 1918.

Appointed 1st bishop of Lafayette, July 18, 1918. Consecrated December 8, 1918, and took possession of See, December 12, 1918. Retired as bishop of Lafayette, March 13, 1956.

Appointed titular bishop of Bareta, March 21, 1956. Assistant to Pontificial Throne, October 2, 1943.
