Career
Cochran"s earlier works show stylistic influences from Impressionist music and his later works are more noticeably influenced by Classical music and folk music of Eastern Europe. Cochran"s piano compositions, such as the piano sonatas, demand considerable virtuosity from the performer. The piano works include Toccata & Fire Dance, nine preludes, four scherzi, six Romanian Dances, Animation Suite composed of Tin Sentinel, Clockwork Doll, Wooden Dolls (Matreshki), Goat"s Dance and Flydian Galop, five mazurkas, the impressionistic work Maelstrom, Fantasy, two waltzes titled Valses and two piano sonatas.
Cochran also wrote orchestral and chamber music including the trio for violin and oboe trio, sextet for string quartet, oboe and bassoon Zorya Vechernyaya, the four-part orchestral work Symphonic Tale, Two Valses for symphony orchestra, the Romanian Dances for chamber orchestra, Dagda"s Harp Fantasy for symphony orchestra and choral works.
Cochran"s music is performed regularly in prominent concert halls throughout the word, including concerts at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Berlin Konzerthaus and the Saint St. Petersburg Philharmonic Hall in Russia, and the music receives regular radio broadcasts. The International Cochran Piano Competition is one of few piano competitions devoted entirely to the works of a single composer and is held in Warsaw, Poland.
