Juliana Swatko received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography/Ceramics from Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Temple University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1974), and a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from the Visual Studies Workshop, State University of New York, Buffalo (1977).
In 1978-1979 Juliana Swatko worked with Light Work/Community Darkrooms at Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York, teaching workshops and setting up an "alternative imaging facility" under an NEA grant. In 1977 she lectured at the Australian Center for Photography, Sydney; Tasmanian College for Advanced Education, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia; and at Rochester Institute of Technology, New York. Juliana Swatko also lectured and demonstrated xerography at Colgate University, Hamilton, New York, and was assistant curator of the school's Fine Arts Slide Collection. In 1975 she taught a xerography workshop at Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester.
