He represented Caledonia County. Julius Canns was first elected to the Vermont State Senate in 1992 and served until his death. He went on to receive a certificate of completion from New York University, training in electronics from Delehanty Institute, and an Bachelor of Laws from Louisiana Salle Extension University in 1965.
He resided in Saint Johnsbury, Vermont at the time of his death.
He died on February 20, 2005, his 82nd birthday. Canns held the following offices:

Following Canns" death, Governor James Douglas appointed George R. Coppenrath to serve out the remainder of Canns" term.
