Originally destined for the law, he also studied music at Berlin under Taubert and Dehn. From 1852-1854, barrister at Wesel. Then gave up law and studied music at Leipzig Conservatory till 1857. During the summer of 1863 he studied singing with Manuel Garcia at London.
Career
In 1857 he founded the chamber-music society “Aufschwung” and in 1859 the “Dilettantes’ Orchestral Society”.
