His genius was revealed at the age of 12 when his literary masterpiece astounded scholars. After this Sekigo Matsunaga took him under his wing and taught him the classics.
His reputation rose, and Jun-an Kinoshita was invited by the Lord of Kaga to come and teach at the clan’s school at Kanazawa, and was iater appointed professor at the Shogunate's College, where he was reverently called Kinri Sensei (1682). Among his most distinguished disciples were such outstanding scholars as Hakuseki Arai, Kyuso Muro, Hoshu Amenomori, Koshu Sakakibara and Kanran Miyake. His works include, Kinri Bunshu (Collection of his Essays) and Hankeishu (Collection of his Poems).
