Kadoko Fujiwara was born in 1301. She was a daughter of Kinkado Ano, Sakon-e-no-Chujo (Lieutenant General of Left Imperial Guard).

Kadoko Fujiwara was born in 1301. She was a daughter of Kinkado Ano, Sakon-e-no-Chujo (Lieutenant General of Left Imperial Guard).
Kadoko Fujiwara served at the Imperial Court (from 1319) and was favored by Emperor Godaigo. When the Emperor was exiled to Oki Island (1332), she accompanied him there. Upon the ascension of Emperor Gomurakami to the throne, she was accorded the title of Empress Dowager.
She died on Mount Yoshino where Emperor Godaigo maintained his government in retreat.
Taking advantage of the Emperor's love of her, she often received bribes from his warriors and influenced the Emperor's decisions on many occasions, which resulted in unjust administration of reward and penalties. It is said that such practice by her caused Takauji Ashikaga to slander Prince Morinaga before the Emperor.
Kadoko Fujiwara was a good waka poetess and worldly wise.
