He was a disciple of Toshikata Mizuno, an artist of Ukiyoe of the Utagawa School.
He organized an artists' association Kji-Kai, together with Yukihiko Yasuda in 1900. Later he joined the Tatsumi-Gakai and Kokkasha, and became a member of the Japan Academy of Fine Arts. Was a frequent exhibitor at expositions of the Education Ministry and the Japan Academy of Fine Arts.
