In 512 the Korean kingdom of Paekche requested that four districts of its neighbor, the Japanese tributary state of Mimana (Inina) be ceded to it. When the matter was discussed at the Japanese court, Kanamura favored granting the request and saw to it that the matter was so decided. After the death of Emperor Keitai, the successors backed by Kanamura, emperors Ankan and Senka, both died after ruling for only brief periods, and a candidate supported by Mononobe no Okoshi, Emperor Kimmei, came to the throne.
Subsequently Kanamura was accused by Mononobe no Okoshi of having accepted bribes from Paekche in the settlement of the Mimana affair. He thereupon retired to his home and did not take any further part in affairs of state; as a result the power of the Otomo family declined.
