Graduated from Economics Department of Tokyo University in 1920 and then from Princeton University, United States in 1922.
Kanejiro Matsumoto entered Yokohama Shokin Ginko (Specie Bank) in 1924 and served at its branches in Tokyo, Shanghai and London. Appointed director of Yasukawa Matsumoto Company in 1938 and vice-president of Kurosaki Yogyo (Ceramics) Company and director of Meiji Mining Company in 1941 and then assumed the above-captioned posts. Assumed additional post of chairman of Chuo Rozai KyogiKai (Central Furnace Materials Council) in 1946. Served also as councilor of Federation of Economics Organizations.
