He was sent to Manchuria as a correspondent by Osaka Mainichi Shimbun in 1919. Later taking over the Fengtien Naigai Tsuhinsha (news agency) changed its name to Fengtien Mainichi Shimbun and became its director in 1921. When Kuo Sung-ling revolted against Chang Tso-ling and was defeated the former's secretary, Yin Ju-keng, sought refuge with the Japanese Consulate at Ching-wing-tao and he made desperate efforts to protect him.
