Kanran Miyake was born in 1674. He was a younger brother of Sekian.
Studied under Keisai Asami and later under Jun-an Kinoshita.
He was employed by Mitsukuni Tokugawa and participated in the compilation of Dai Nihonshi (Great History of Japan). Later appointed a director of Compilation Office and then appointed Confucianist official at Shogunate. This elevated disciples of Jun-an over those of Hayashi school.
