Kansho Okuda was born in 1846.
He entered priesthood under the guidance of Priest Kanshin of the Shorin-in Temple on Mount Hiei. In 1879, he settled a trouble centering around monetary donations to the Zenkoji Temple, a famous Buddhist institution in Nagano Prefecture and became its assistant chief priest. He worked hard as a penitentiary chaplain and set up a poor house in the temple compound. He became chief priest of the Sensoj and Temple in Asakusa, Tokyo (1883), and enlarged it. He later participated in the organization of the Toho Kyokai Association and the Toa Dobunkai, which were institutions aiming to foster closer ties with Asian countries.
