Karpo Trokhymenko studied at Kiev Art School under the supervision of I. Seleznyov between 1902 and 1910, the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture (now Surikov Art Institute in Moscow) under M. Kasatkin during 1906-1907, and the Imperial Academy of Arts (now Ilya Repin St. Petersburg State Academic Institute for Painting, Sculpture and Architecture) under the guidance of M. Samokysh from 1910 to 1916.
Between 1918 and 1920 Trokhymenko worked as an instructor for the Commission for the Protection of Historical and Artistic Monuments in Kiev and concurrently in 1918-1919 he taught at the Kiev Art School. During 1926-1933 he occupied the post of a professor at the Kiev Artistic-Industrial Professional School and Kiev Art Tekhnikum, and for the period of 1933-1974 he taught at the Kiev State Art Institute (now the National Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture). Later he became a vice-chairman of the Arts Council of the Ministry of Education of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.
Karpo Trokhymenko created his artworks in watercolours, oils, and pencil. The artist painted murals in the church at the Swedish Grave in Poltava; realistic historical scenes, for instance, Cossacks’ Supper at Their Battle Posts (1917); and landscapes, including The Dnipro from Ivanova Mountain (1926), The Dnipro and the Museum from Chernecha Mountain (1953), and Barley in Bloom (1965). He also created Soviet genre paintings in the style of socialist realism.
