Katamori Sawatari was born in 1811.
A ritualist at the okunitama Shrine in Fuchu, west of Edo, he was appointed an instructor at the Daigaku Nanko (predecessor of Tokyo University) (1869) and appointed an official at the Mausolea Bureau.
Like his father, Moriaki, he was a conscientious scholar and completed Sosha Wakumon and Musashi Sosha Shi, books on Shinto shrines.
