Kathryn Merle Keeton was born on February 17, 1939 in South Africa, where she grew up. Kathy had a brother, Keith Keeton of South Africa and an uncle, William Keeton of South Africa.
As part of her treatment to strengthen a leg affected by polio, which she had contracted at an early age, Kathy Keeton was encouraged to take dance lessons. She took up ballet and later studied with the Royal Ballet School in London, after winning a scholarship at the age of thirteen, but left after she turned 18.
By eighteen Kathy Keeton had been performing with the Folies Bergeres. She also danced in supper clubs and tried her hand at acting and modeling. She appeared in bit parts in four British movies: "Carlton-Browne of the F.O." (1959) as a tabletop dancer, "Expresso Bongo" (1959), "Too Hot to Handle" (1960), and "The Spy Who Came in from the Cold" (1965) as a stripper.
Keeton met Guccione after appearing in the movie "The Spy Who Came in from the Cold". She originally left dancing to work with Guccione in 1968 to establish an American edition of "Penthouse", which was modeled somewhat like "Playboy". She sold ad space, and then was named vice-chairperson in 1969. When a female version of "Penthouse", called "Viva", hit the stands in 1973, Keeton was its advertising director. She later became the short-lived magazine’s associate publisher and editor.
Keeton pursued an interest in science when she and Guccione founded "Omni" in 1979. In 1989 she established the magazine "Longevity", which deals with health concerns. Both magazines continue to be issued on the Internet. She also served as president and chief operating officer of General Media Communications, and as vice-chairperson of General Media International.
In addition, Keeton authored two non-fiction books: "Woman of Tomorrow" (1985) and "Longevity: The Science of Staying Young", which was published in 1992.

1992Kathy Keeton was a strong advocate of women in the sciences and technology and offered her encouragement in a book "Woman of Tomorrow", published in 1985.
Moreover, Keeton also devoted her energies to helping the homeless, to obtaining FDA approval for the cancer-fighting drug hydrazine sulfate, and to combating illiteracy. She established the Kathy Keeton Cancer Research Foundation to encourage research in alternative and complementary cancer therapies.
Kathy Keeton met Bob Guccione in 1965 and they remained together. The two began living together two years later, but did not marry until 1988. Kathy Keeton also had five stepchildren.
