Education
In 1976, Freed graduated from Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, as a member of one of the school"s first coeducational classes. She graduated from Brown University and attended the London School of Economics.

Freed is currently a freelance producer. In 2006, she co-founded The Documentary Group. She is a former producer of the 20/20 television show on American Broadcasting Company. Freed is Peter Jennings" widow.
After his death, she issued the following statement: "Peter died with his family around him, without pain and in peace.
He knew he"d lived a good life." She inherited half his $50m estate.
