He was born in Batavia, Java and belonged to 5th generation of the Ong family which migrated from Fukien to the Dutch East Indies and all these generations were merchants.

Since 1932 Mr Wang was a president of The Tiong Hwa Hwee Koan (Chinese Guild) School, Batavia, and also of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Batavia. He was a manager and proprietor of the Ong Kek Tjioe & Co., Batavia.
