Kempo Yoshioka was once a dyer by profession, who invented the technique of dyeing cloths into a peculiar blackish-brown color, which is known as Yoshioka-zome or Kempo-zome.
Later took up fencing under the tutelage of Tiiji Gian and became famous in using a small sword. Was appointed instructor of fencing to Shogun Ashikaga's family. It is said that he once had a duel with Musashi Miyamoto, a great master of his time, and that the match ended in a draw.
