Left Tokyo University without graduating with the intention of becoming a novelist and joined Shirakaba (a group of romantic writers).
Later entered politics (1930) and helped in forming an independant Government in China separate from that of Chiang Kai-shek. Being involved the Sorge spy case was arrested. After World War II was purged. When the ban was lifted became leader of Minsliuto (democratic) party, but left it over differences of opinion regarding the merger with the Jiyiitd (liberal) party, and joined the latter as an ordinary member. Was elected member of the House of Representatives ten times. Appointed Justice Minister in the fifth Yoshida Cabinet (1953). Is the author of "Nanking Roktigatsu Sai" (Nanking’s June festival).
