Ken Salaz was born in 1970 in Southern California.
Ken Salaz spent a great part of his childhood and youth traveling with his parents around Mexico, the Southwest of the United States, and the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia. On the road, Salaz sketched changing landscapes and people he observed.
He pursued to explore the nature of other areas like Asia, Central and South America, and Europe after the graduation from the Cooper Union. In addition to landscapes he created, the artist also developed his skills by copying the masterpieces of great artists in the Museums he visited while traveling.
Then, Salaz was trained by Nelson Shanks and Leonid Gervitz from the Repin Institute of Arts. He also attended the Water Street Atelier of Jacob Collins.
A representative of Poetic Realism, Ken Salaz marries the techniques of the Old Masters with the tonality methods to create his own interpretation of the movement.
In addition to the majestic landscapes, Salaz creates, he has also shown himself as a talented Magician and Mentalist. In that capacity, he has worked with a musician and songwriter Bruce Springsteen and with comedian and TV host Jimmy Fallon.
Nowadays, Ken Salaz lives and works in the magnificent Hudson River Valley which inspires him on new masterpieces. One of his recent projects is a 2019 book titled ‘Landscapes in Oil: A Contemporary Guide to Realistic Painting in the Classical Tradition’, a comprehensive guide to classical landscape painting seen from the perspective of the 21st century.

The artist believes that the main mission of painted masterpieces is to show the viewer the eternity and ever-presence of beauty.
Quotations: "Landscape painting is a noble pursuit, and the goal of the landscape artist is not to paint ‘pretty pictures’ but to create compelling images that express our profound connection to nature in all its diversity and grandeur."
