Kenda North was born on March 13, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, United States.
Kenda North earned a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from Colorado College, Colorado Springs, in 1972 after studying at the Institute for European Studies in Vienna, Austria (1970-1971). She received a Master of Fine Arts from the Visual Studies Workshop, Rochester, New York, in 1976.
Kenda North became a lecturer in photography at the University of California, Riverside, in 1979. She was an artist-in-residence and art coordinator at Colorado Mountain College, Breckenndge, in 1977-1979 and a visiting artist/lecturer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois (1976-1977).
