(This bibliography is a scholarly survey of representative...)
This bibliography is a scholarly survey of representative and significant literature on Luther to appear during the last decade. Earlier bibliographical surveys of Luther studies were widely used. The terminus a quo has been chosen for two reasons: first, previous surveys had adequately covered secondary literature through 1967; secondly, that date marked the four hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the supposed and celebrated Thesenanschlag. Since 1967 Luther studies have continued to expand and diversify. The purpose of our survey is to provide a scholarly tool for a variety of students of the reformation. This tool provides quick and easy access to material on Luther in German, English, French and the Scandinavian languages (Dutch, Italian, and Spanish works are also included). The survey is intended to do more than the "Archiv fur Reformationsgeschichte" and less than the "Lutherjahrbuch". It does not pretend to be exhaustive, but it does fill a void.
