Kevin M. Meuse is an American lawyer based in Boston, Massachusetts, where he practices estate planning, private client, and trusts and estates law. A partner at Nutter McClennen & Fish LLP, he was admitted to the Massachusetts bar in 1987 after earning degrees from Dartmouth College and Boston College Law School.
Background
Kevin M. Meuse received his undergraduate education at Dartmouth College, the institution founded in 1769 in Hanover, New Hampshire, which is one of the nine colonial colleges. His legal education took place in Boston, where he studied at Boston College Law School before entering practice in Massachusetts.
This path moved from a New England liberal arts college to a law school in the Boston area, a city that is one of the leading centers for major law firms, corporations, and government agencies in the United States.
Education
Meuse earned a Bachelor of Arts cum laude from Dartmouth College in 1983. Dartmouth, chartered in 1769 and located in Hanover, New Hampshire, combines an undergraduate liberal arts education with a long tradition of New England higher learning.
He then attended Boston College Law School, where he received a Juris Doctor magna cum laude in 1987. Boston College Law School was founded in 1929 as the law program of Boston College, a Jesuit institution, and held its first classes in downtown Boston. It received American Bar Association accreditation in 1932 and moved to its permanent Newton, Massachusetts, campus in 1975.
He was admitted to the Massachusetts bar in 1987, the same year he completed his law degree, and he was also admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court.
Career
Meuse's documented legal career is based at Nutter McClennen & Fish LLP in Boston, where he is a partner in the Private Client Department and a member of the firm's Professional Responsibility Committee. The firm was co-founded in 1879 by Louis D. Brandeis and Samuel D. Warren under the name Warren & Brandeis. It later practiced as Brandeis, Dunbar & Nutter and then as Dunbar, Nutter & McClennen before adopting its present name. Brandeis practiced at the firm for 35 years before his appointment to the United States Supreme Court.
His practice focuses on private client work, including estate planning for individuals and families, estate administration, trust services, and counsel for caregivers. Nutter's private client practice serves individuals and families with estate planning and fiduciary needs in the Massachusetts legal market.
He has written and lectured on a number of estate planning subjects and has been quoted by the media on those subjects both nationally and locally.
Membership
Meuse is a member of three legal organizations in Massachusetts and the United States. The American Bar Association, founded in 1878 at Saratoga Springs, New York, is the national voluntary association of lawyers, and it promotes legal education, professional standards, and the improvement of the justice system. The Massachusetts Bar Association is a voluntary, nonprofit organization in the Commonwealth that serves the legal profession and the public through legal education and professional excellence. The Boston Bar Association, incorporated in 1861, is a volunteer organization of the Boston legal community that also runs public service programs using lawyer volunteers.
