He received a bachelor"s degree in finance from the University of Utah and an Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
He worked for the Brighton Consulting Group and later Ernst & Young. From 1991 to 1997, he was the chief operating officer/Chief Financial Officer of Medicode and from 1998 to 2005 he was the Chief Executive Officer of Ingenix. From 2005 to 2008, he served as president of the Washington Tacoma Mission.
He was still serving in Washington when he was called to the First Quorum of the Seventy.
As a general authority, he has served as an Assistant Executive Director of the Missionary Department, as a counselor in the both the church"s Europe East and Pacific areas, since 2014, as president of the Pacific Area, based in Auckland, New Zealand.
He is a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy.
