Khanyi Dhlomo is the daughter of Oscar Dumisani Dhlomo and Nokuthula Venetia Dhlomo and is the youngest and only girl of four children.

To the needs of a younger, emerging generation of women, at the age of 22, Khanyi was appointed editor of the magazine and tasked to do just that. Within a year of her appointment, True Love"s circulation doubled from 70,000 to 140,000 and the magazine became the most widely read women"s magazine in the country. In 2013, Khanyi launched Luminance (described as a "luxury and contemporary fashion and lifestyle department store") which was the first of its kind in Africa, under Ndalo Luxury Ventures
