Background
Kimura Shiro was born in 1595.Kimura Shigenari was known also as Nagato-no-Kami. He grew up with Hideyori Toyotomi, and when he grew up joined the latter's army.

Kimura Shigenari successfully defended Osaka Castle during the Fuyu-no-jin (winter battle) (1614), during the civil war between Tokugawa and Toyotomi, and when a peace treaty was signed between the two warring houses he was sent to Edo to conclude a bond of friendship with Tokugawa. He again distinguished himself at Osaka Natsu-no-jin (summer battle) where he destroyed Todo's army (1615), but in his next engagement with the forces of Ii, he was killed in action.
