Kindai Tōjō was born in 1795 in Edo (now Tokyo), Japan.
Kindai Tōjō studied under Nishu Bitō, Kinjo Ota and others and then attended Shōheikō (Shōgunate's college) to eventually become a teacher of the Takada Clan.
After the Meiji Restoration (1868) was ordained priest of Kameido Shrine and at the same time was made an official in the Ministry of Education.
