Kinjo Ota was a Confucian scholar. He wrote many books.
Kinjo Ota was born in 1765 in Daishoji, Kaga Province (Ishikawa Prefecture). His given name was Motosada.
He studied under Kien Minagawa and Hokuzan Yamamoto. Studied Confucian literature of the Han, Tang, Ming and Ching dynasties of China and the doctrines of Jinsai Ito and Sorai Ogyu and evolved a doctrine of his own.
He served the Lord of Kaga, receiving a fief of 300 koku.
