Education
Studied Shintoism from Shikibu Takenouchi and as a courtier to Emperor Hanazono made efforts to enhance the Imperial prestige.
Career
Kinmura Tokudaiji with Toshimichi Koga and 10 other Court nobles entered into a blood brotherhood pact and together with his master, Umon Fujii, and others delivered lectures on Nihon-Shoki at the Imperial Court, wherein he urged the necessity of restoring the Imperial authority. Two years later, he fell foul of the Court and was forced into seclusion. He thereupon became a Buddhist priest under the name of Rankei.
