Kinuko leaped into limelight by ranking first in Miss Japan Beauty Contest (1953) and then being placed third in 1954 Miss Universe World Beauty Contest held in USA. Her well-proportioned pnysique gave rise to the catchword Hattoshin (ideally balanced figure).
