Background

MERETSKOV, Kirill was born in 1897 in village Nazarevo, now Moscow Oblast.

Education

1921 graduated Red Army Military Academy.

Career

At 1939 and 1952 Communist Party of the Soviet Union Congresses elected candidate member of the Central Committee. Deputy, USSR Supreme Soviet of 1937, 1946, 1950, 1954 and 1958 convocation. Formerly member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party Lithuania Karelo-Finnish Soviet Socialist Republic.

1918-1958 in Soviet Army. 1918-1921 in Civil War. 1921-1941 held command and staff positions, including 1936-1938 Chief of Staff, Belarusian Military District.

1938-1939 Commander, Volga and Leningrad Military District. 1939-1940 commanded army on Vyborg Flank. 1940-1941 Chief of General Staff, Red Army, and USSR Deputy Popular Commissar of Defense.

1941-1945 Commander, Volkhov, Karelian and First Far Eastern Fronts. 1946-1947 Commander, Maritime and Moscow Military District. 1947-1955 Commander, White Sea (now Northern) Military District.

1955-1958 Assist, to Minister of Defense for Higher Military Training Establishments. Since 1956 Presidium member, 1958-1961 Chairman, War Veterans Committee.

Religion

No religious basis is needed in order to display ethical behavior.

Views

The emphasis on peaceful coexistence doesn’t mean that the Soviet Union accepted a static world with clear lines. Socialism is inevitable and the "correlations of forces" were moving towards socialism.
