Konstantin Germanovich Batrakov is a Belarusian physicist whose research has addressed theoretical radiation physics, volume free-electron lasers, parametric and coherent X-ray radiation, graphene nanostructures, carbon-based electromagnetic materials, and terahertz electrodynamics.
Background
Konstantin Germanovich Batrakov was born on June 22, 1962, in Mogilev, Belarus. He is Belarusian and has worked principally in Minsk, where his scientific career has been associated with the Institute for Nuclear Problems of Belarusian State University.
Education
Batrakov pursued advanced training in theoretical physics at Belarusian State University. In 1993 he completed and defended research on induced parametric, or quasi-Cherenkov, radiation and received the degree of Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences in theoretical physics. His later research continued the study of radiation generated by electron beams in periodic and structured media, extending into free-electron lasers, graphene, carbon nanostructures, and terahertz electrodynamics.
Career
Batrakov began his professional career at the Institute for Nuclear Problems, where he worked as a junior science researcher from November 30, 1986, to November 30, 1989. He then continued at the institute as a leading science researcher from November 30, 1989, through November 30, 2011. His early work focused on theoretical radiation processes, including induced parametric and quasi-Cherenkov radiation, electron-beam instabilities, and the theory of volume free-electron lasers. He subsequently contributed to modeling and analysis of volume-distributed-feedback laser systems, coherent bremsstrahlung, parametric X-ray radiation, and related accelerator and radiation phenomena. From November 30, 2007, to November 30, 2011, he was also associated with Belarusian State University. In later research, his work expanded toward graphene nanoribbons, carbon nanotubes, carbon films, graphene-polymer structures, electromagnetic absorption and shielding, and passive terahertz components. His publications document continuing collaboration with researchers in Belarus and abroad, particularly on the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with carbon-based and other structured materials.
Achievements
