He was born on December 13, 1931 in Stavropol. Father - Orekhov Vladimir Konstantinovich (1904-1959). Mother - Orekhova Olga Ivanovna (1904-1989).
From 1949 to 1950 he worked as a maintenance man at the construction and rehabilitation section of the Moscow-Kursk Railway MGTS USSR. In 1950 he entered the pediatric faculty at the 2nd Moscow Medical Institute named after I.V. Stalin.
After graduation from the university in 1956, the Central Committee of the Komsomol directed him to the construction of the Bratsk Hydroelectric Power Station, however, at the request of the Irkutsk regional health department, he was transferred in Ust-Orda Buryat National District to work as a pediatrician. From 1960 to 1963 he was a post-graduate student of the Hospital Pediatrics Department at the 2nd Moscow Medical Institute named after N.I. Pirogov. In 1964 he presented his thesis on "Certain indicators of nonspecific immunity in newborn children with intracranial birth trauma."
From 1963 to 1982 he worked at the Krasnoyarsk Medical Institute. From 1966 to 1982 he headed the department of hospital pediatrics, that was established under his initiative. From 1969 to 1976 he was vice-rector for academic affairs, working at the same time on establishment of all the specialized departments for the Faculty of Pediatrics. In 1975, K.V. Orekhov facilitated the opening of a research institute in Krasnoyarsk. In 1976, the State Committee for Science and Technology established the Institute of Medical Issues of the North as a department of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. In 1976 he presented his doctoral dissertation "Specifics of newborn children’ carbohydrate metabolism". In 1986 he was transferred at the Irkutsk Medical Institute as head of the pediatrics department and dean of the pediatric faculty, where all the profile departments of the faculty were also opened. In 1987 he facilitated the opening of the East Siberian branch of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. In 1988, due to his mother’s health deterioration, he moved to work in the Stavropol Medical Institute (since 1994 - medical academy). In 1989 he created the Department of Children's Infectious Diseases, which he heads to the present day. From 1989 to 1995 he worked as a pro-rector for research. Since 1990 he is the chairman of the Academy's dissertational council that he established.
