Graduate Mogilev Theological Seminary. Taught himself archeology.
Began archeological research just in prior to World War 1, while working as a teacher. From 1926 worked for Archeological Commission, Institute of Belorussian Culture. Then associate, Archeological Department, Institute of History, Belorussian Academy of Sciences.
1932-1933 made archeological study of Azov littoral and Southern Bug for Institute of Geology, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences. Then returned to Belorussian Soviet Socialist Republic. 1941-1943 field geologist, Kaz Geological Board and studied Mesolithic and Neolithic sites in various parts of Kazakhstan.
From 1943 associate, from 1944 head, Archeological Section, Institute of History, Belorussian Academy of Sciences. Discovered and studied many Paleolithic, Neolithic and Broncc Age sites and Early Iron Age settlements and tumuli in Belorussian. Of particular importance were his studies of the late Paleolithic sites near the settlements of Berdyzh, Yeliseyevichi and Yudinova.
Developed a method of detecting Paleolithic sites by mapping areas with traces of the bones of large animals from the Quaternary period.
