Kosaburo Kuromiya rendered great services to agriculture and cultivated 100 chobu (1 chobu equals 2.5 acres) of new paddy fields (1871). He cleared 108 chobu of wasteland in Atsuta (1875) and saved the cost drained the Yahagi River. It was one of the three biggest feats of this kind in Japan.
