Kristy Montee received a degree in education from Eastern Michigan University.
At the beginning of her career, Kristy worked as a reporter in Michigan and then in Fort Lauderdale, Florida as an assistant managing editor on the Sun-Sentinel. She left the job in order to concentrate on writing. Kristy wrote four romantic novels but then decided to try out in mystery writing.
In 1995 Kristy teamed up with her sister Kelly Montee under the pseudonym "P. J. Parrish" to create the fictional character of police officer Louis Kincaid. Their collaboration is unusual because they live in separate states. Kelly and Kristy wrote thirteen Louis Kincaid and Joe Frye thrillers. Their books have appeared on both the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists.
