Sarah Cockburn attended Aberdeen University and St. Anne’s College, Oxford.
At the beginning of her career in 1966, Sarah Cockburn was called to the Chancery Bar in London and practiced in Old Square, Lincoln’s Inn for some years before joining the legal department of Lloyd’s Bank trust division. She also was a lecturer in law at the University College of Wales.
As the author, Sarah wrote Thus Was Adonis Murdered in 1981. She also produced The Shortest Way to Hades in 1985 and The Sirens Sang of Murder in 1989. Her last book, The Sibyl in Her Grave was written in 2000. Cockburn was also the author of the unpublished play, The Madman's Advocate, which was never performed professionally but did receive readings in England and New York in the mid-1990s.

Claud Cockburn was a noted British radical journalist. In 1933 he founded a political journal called, The Week, which exposed people in the British ruling class who had sympathies for fascism, especially the Cliveden Set of pro-Nazi intriguers. He also covered the Spanish Civil War under the pseudonym, Frank Pitcairn, for the British Communist Party's newspaper, the Daily Worker.
Ross was widely acknowledged as Christopher Isherwood's model for Sally Bowles, the central figure in I Am a Camera and Cabaret .
Alexander Claud Cockburn was an Irish American journalist, who penned acerbic, provocative columns on cultural and political topics for a variety of publications, notably the left-leaning journals the Village Voice (1973–84) and The Nation (1984–2012), the conservative Wall Street Journal newspaper (1980–90), and the self-described "radical" online newsletter CounterPunch (1994–2012), which he co-edited.
