Kurleigh studied at London University in London, United Kingdom. He was a student of the Graduate School of Business and Columbia University in New York City, United States.
Kurleigh worked as a Vice-President at the Institute of Council for Adult Education. From 1967 to 1968 he worked as an assistant dean of the Graduate School of Business of Columbia University in New York City, United States. In 1968 he became a general manager of the Barbados Industry and Development Corporation in Barbados. He worked there for six years.
From 1971 to 1974 Kurleigh was an executive trustee at the Barbados Institute of Manager and Productivity in Barbados. In 1973 he worked as a Vice-President at the Bureau Institute for Professional Development. He held this position until 1976. From 1974 to 1978 Kurleigh worked as a director of the industry division of the Caribbean Development Bank. In this year he became a secretary-general of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). He worked there for five years. In 1979 he was a trustee of the Maharishi Institute in the United States. Since 1987 he worked as a governor of the Central Bank of Barbados in Barbados.
Kurleigh married to Herma Graham in 1957, divorced in 1977. They have a daughter. Then he married to Berenice Johnson in 1978 and divorced. In three years Kurleigh married to Carolyn Gaylord.
