Attended MacRae’s School, Cumberland County, Virginia. Bachelor of Arts, Hampden-Sydney College, 1788.

Career

Tutor, Hampden-Sydney (Virginia) College, 1784-1787, vice president, 1788-1789, acting president, 1789-1797. Licensed to preach Presbyterian Church, 1787, active in religious revival in Southern Virginia, 1787. Operated private school at his home, near Hampton-Sydney, 1797-1815.

Delegate to General Assembly Presbyterian Church, many times, moderator of Assembly, Philadelphia, 1809.
