She was the recipient of the George Bennett Fellowship for Creative Writing at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. According to Moriarty, her debut novel (The Center Of Everything) was deeply influenced by a reading of Carl Sagan"s The Demon-Haunted World.
