Lauren R. Shaw was born on April 2, 1946, in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.
Lauren Shaw earned a Bachelor of Visual Arts from Georgia State University, Atlanta (1968). She received her Master of Fine Arts in photography from the Rhode Island School of Design where she studied with Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind.
Since 1972 Lauren Shaw has been an assistant professor of fine arts at Emerson College, Boston, and since 1977 has lectured at Essex Workshop in Essex, Massachusetts. She served on the staff of Apeiron Workshops in Millerton, New York, from 1974 to 1976.
Lauren Shaw is a tenured Professor at Emerson College, Department of Visual and Media Arts. Co-founder of New England Women in Photography and Co-chaired the National Conference in 1997.
Lauren Shaw continues to exhibit her latest photographic work: “Maps,” and was selected for Southeast Center for Photography: Portrait Show, 2019, Greenville, SC, LA Artcore, Photographic Exhibition and Competition, 2019, Honorable Mention, and Exposure, 2018, Juried Exhibition, Photographic Resource Center, Boston.
