Brown attended San Francisco State University, where she earned an MA in 1975, and San Jose State University, where she received her BA in the same field in 1972. She also took courses at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California (1973; 1976), and at the University of Colorado in Boulder (1970-71).
Brown lived in California where she has held several teaching positions in photography. She was the coordinator of the Photo Department at Cabrillo College in Aptos. Previously she taught at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills (1979), at the Extension Programs of the University of California in Santa Cruz (1977) and of San Jose State University (1976-79), at the Friends of Photography Workshops in Carmel (1976; 1979) and at Merced College in Merced (1974-75).
Brown received a Photographer's Fellowship from NEA in 1979 and a scholarship from the Academy of Arts College in San Francisco in 1973.
The artist worked with silver and color prints. She was "mainly concerned with modifying the physical surface of the print and creating new relationships between the surface and the image."
Since 1973 she has been a member of SPE, VSW and the Friends of Photography.
