Lazar Borisovich Genkin

Background

Genkin was born on 19 September 1903 in Kyiv.

Education

In 1921-1922, he studied in Moscow Institute of Journalism. In 1923, he went back to the Institute of Journalism, and graduated in 1925.

Career

After graduation from the Kyiv Gymnasium, in 1920-1921, Genkin was the Secretary of the Uyezd Committee of the Russian Youth Communist League in Borisoglebsk, Tambov Governorate. In 1922-1923, he was the Executive Secretary of the newspaper "Trydovoy Nabat" in Tyumen. In 1925-1933, Genkin was a military reporter, a contributor to a number of army newspapers, including "Krasnaya Zvezda". In 1933-1939, he was an Associate Professor in Militarian-Political Academy in Leningrad. In 1936-1939, Genkin was the Director of Yaroslavl Regional Book Publisher. In 1939, he worked in a book publisher in Leningrad. In 1940 Genkin became the associate professor of Marxism-Leninism in Leningrad State University. From 1945, he became an Associate Professor, Professor, Head of the Department of History of the USSR Yaroslavl State Pedagogical Institute. From 1962, Genkin worked as a Professor, Head of the Department of the pre-Soviet History of the USSR in Voronezh State University.
