Leander Paes is a direct descendant of the Bengali poet Michael Madhusudan Dutt on his mother's side. He is the sports ambassador of the Indian state of Haryana.

Paes showed promise early in his career by winning titles at the Junior US Open and the Junior Wimbledon. Vece Paes was a former Indian hockey midfielder, and representing the Indian team in the 1972 Munich Olympics, that won the bronze medal. He is the father of India's tennis player Leander Paes. He is also a doctor in sports medicine.He attended La Martiniere College in Lucknow. He is married to Jennifer Dutton, a grand-daughter of Michael Madhusudan Dutt.
Jennifer Paes is a former basketball player from India who captained the Indian national basketball team in 1982 and participated in the 1972 Summer Olympics. She is mother of Leander Paes, India's top tennis player, and the ex-wife of India's former field hockey player Vece Paes. Jennifer is daughter of Michael Dutton and Ruby Myrtle Nyss of Calcutta and great granddaughter of Bengali poet Michael Madhusudan Dutt.
Michael Madhusudan Dutt, or Michael Madhusudan Dutta (Bengali: মাইকেল মধুসূদন দত্ত ); 25 January 1824 – 29 June 1873) was a popular 19th-century Bengali poet and dramatist. He was born in Sagordari (Bengali: সাগরদাঁড়ি), on the bank of Kopotaksho (Bengali: কপোতাক্ষ) River, a village in Keshobpur Upozila, Jessore District, East Bengal (now in Bangladesh). His father was Rajnarayan Dutt, an eminent lawyer, and his mother was Jahnabi Devi. He was a pioneer of Bengali drama.His famous work Meghnad Bodh Kavya (Bengali: মেঘনাদবধ কাব্য), is a tragic epic. It consists of nine cantos and is exceptional in Bengali literature both in terms of style and content. He also wrote poems about the sorrows and afflictions of love as spoken by women.
From an early age, Dutt aspired to be an Englishman in form and manner. Born to a Hindu landed-gentry family, he converted to Christianity as a young man, to the ire of his family, and adopted the first name Michael. In later life he regretted his attraction to England and the Occident. He wrote ardently of his homeland in his poems and sonnets from this period.
Dutt is widely considered to be one of the greatest poets in Bengali literature and the father of the Bengali sonnet. He pioneered what came to be called amitrakshar chhanda (blank verse). Dutt died in Kolkata, India on 29 June 1873
Her father is Raymond Pillai, a financial controller at IBM Europe. Her mother, Dhurreshwar Dhanrajgir, is a doctor, and the daughter of Maharaj Narsingir Dhanrajgir Gyan Bahadur of Hyderabad and actress Zubeida, who acted in the first Indian talkie Alam Ara (1931).
In 1998, Rhea Pillai married actor Sanjay Dutt, but they separated after a few years. She stated in 2006 that they remained close friends. After the divorce became official in 2008, and details of the settlement were published by the tabloid MiD DAY, the broadsheet newspaper The Telegraph criticised Pillai for her materialism and her conduct in relation to Dutt.
Pillai is now married to Indian tennis player Leander Paes; they have a daughter, Aiyana.
In 2003, she was honored as the "Woman of the Year", along with Raveena Tandon, Anoushka Shankar and Ritu Beri, on International Women's Day. The event was promoted by Indiatimes, Asmi Diamonds and the Indian Television Academy. Pillai's award was for social services.
In 2006 she had a minor screen role in the Hindi movie Corporate.
She is actively involved in the Art of Living Foundation,founded by Sri Sri Ravishankar, and is an instructor for the Art of Living courses
