Enlisted in Company C, 79th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, August 1862. Promoted corporal, sergeant, color bearer, sergeant major and adjunct of regiment and took part in 33 battles. Began as evangelist Methodist Episcopal Church, 1874, and has preached for more than 50 years.
Became editor The Methodist (weekly), Philadelphia Represented Philadelphia Annual Conference in General Conference of Methodist Episcopal Church 6 times, 1904-1928.
