(Named for the twelfth night after Christmas, the end of t...)
Named for the twelfth night after Christmas, the end of the Christmas season, Twelfth Night plays with love and power. The Countess Olivia, a woman with her own household, attracts Duke (or Count) Orsino. Two other would-be suitors are her pretentious steward, Malvolio, and Sir Andrew Aguecheek. Onto this scene arrive the twins Viola and Sebastian; caught in a shipwreck, each thinks the other has drowned. Viola disguises herself as a male page and enters Orsino’s service. Orsino sends her as his envoy to Olivia—only to have Olivia fall in love with the messenger. The play complicates, then wonderfully untangles, these relationships. The authoritative edition of Twelfth Night from The Folger Shakespeare Library, the trusted and widely used Shakespeare series for students and general readers, includes: -Freshly edited text based on the best early printed version of the play -Full explanatory notes conveniently placed on pages facing the text of the play -Scene-by-scene plot summaries -A key to the play’s famous lines and phrases -An introduction to reading Shakespeare’s language -An essay by a leading Shakespeare scholar providing a modern perspective on the play -Fresh images from the Folger Shakespeare Library’s vast holdings of rare books -An annotated guide to further reading Essay by Catherine Belsey The Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC, is home to the world’s largest collection of Shakespeare’s printed works, and a magnet for Shakespeare scholars from around the globe. The Mystery of Edwin Drood is the final novel by Charles Dickens.[1][2] The novel was unfinished at the time of Dickens's death (9 June 1870) and his ending for it is unknown. Though the novel is named after the character Edwin Drood, the story focuses on Drood's uncle, precentor, choirmaster and opium addict, John Jasper, who is in love with his pupil, Rosa Bud. Miss Bud, Drood's fiancée, has also caught the eye of the high-spirited and hot-tempered Neville Landless, who comes from Ceylon with his twin sister, Helena. Landless and Drood take an instant dislike to one another.

Mr. Garfield was born in Brighton, Sussex, United Kingdom, on July 14, 1921.
Leon Garfield attended Brighton Grammar School (1932-1938) and went on to study art at Regent Street Polytechnic (now University of Westminster), but his studies were interrupted first by lack of funds for fees, then by the outbreak of World War II.
Mr. Garfield began his writing career after serving in the British Army’s Medical Corps during World War II, followed by twenty-three years as a biochemical technician for several London hospitals. In 1964, his first novel was published, Jack Holborn, a tale of a young boy’s adventures on the high seas, earned him an award from the Boys Clubs of America. He followed this with numerous children’s and young adult historical novels, a couple of novels for adults, and many adaptations of Shakespearean, Greek, and Biblical stories. All told, he wrote more than sixty stories, including The House of Cards, The Valentine, The Apprentices, Mister Corbett’s Ghost, and Other Stories, Smith, and The Saracen Maid. He also completed The Mystery of Edwin Drood, originally begun by Charles Dickens.
