Leonid Leonidovich graduated from the Faculty of Biology and Soil of Voronezh State University in 1951 and completed a postgraduate course in 1957. From 1956 to 1960, he completed a postgraduate course in Voronezh State Pedagogical Institute. He was an associate professor of zoology of vertebrata at Voronezh State University from 1960 to 1988.
Leonid Leonidovich Semago worked at an anti-plague station in Shalkar in Aktobe Region in Kazakhstan from 1951 to 1954. He wrote over 150 scientific works along with many scientific and fiction books including "Essays on Wildlife" (published in Voronezh in 1972 and 1974), "Hundred Rendezvous with Nature" (published in Voronezh in 1975 and 1976), "On the River Banks" (published in Voronezh in 1985), "Black Pike" (published in Voronezh in 1988), "The Golden Flute" (published in Moscow in 1990), "Birds" (published in Moscow in 1994), "A Hedgehog Running in the Snow" (published in Voronezh in 2004).
