Leonid Mikhailovich graduated from the acting department of the Petrograd Institute of Performing Arts (now Russian State Institute of Performing Arts) (1923).
Leonid Mikhailovich directed drama circles in Rostov-on-Don and Saint-Petersburg (1924-1931). Since 1936 he worked (with interruptions) as an editor at the Lenfilm studio. During the Great Patriotic War - editor of the scenario studio in the city of Alma-Ata and Moscow. He was a literary consultant of the film studio in Bucharest (1959-1961).
Leonid Mikhailovich is the author of several plays and screenplays, including "Seekers" (1956, together with Daniil Granin on his homonymous novel).
