Year in Nam is his story of that long, terrifying, and numbing year of combat, one that profoundly affected the men in TeCube’s platoon and tested the strength of his own Native American heritage.

TeCube started writing after an experience he had with a high school class. Then he was one of several Vietnam veterans who gave a presentation on their Vietnam experiences. While giving his presentation he was rather surprised to see the students paying close attention to what he had to say, although he felt it was trivial. After that Leroy started writing on his Vietnam war experiences, mainly a few pages for his children. That turned into a major endeavor when he had his memoirs of the war published as Year in Nam: A Native American Soldier’s Story (1999).
